Event Description:
The AACo Bureau of Watershed Protection & Restoration is excited to continue our seasonal "Watershed Walk" program! In 2024, our Bureau will be hosting four (4) guided tours of restored areas throughout the County. Learn from the experts about how these projects work to improve water quality for Anne Arundel County and enhance riparian habitat for wildlife.
This upcoming tour will be held at the Preserve at Eisenhower Golf Course in Crownsville. This Golf Course, which has been in operation since 1969, was purchased by the County and reopened in May 2022 after a major collaborative course renovation and environmental restoration effort. The AACo Department of Recreation & Parks managed the course restoration, and the AACo Department of Public Works Bureau of Watershed Protection & Restoration managed the environmental restoration. These offices enlisted the support of several contracted partnerships throughout the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of this project.
Excitingly, this course has really earned the title of, “Preserve” as it boasts high-quality habitat for a wide variety of native animal and plant species. Most notably on this tour, we will focus on the diverse community of bird species, along with some signs of our favorite local ecosystem engineers…beavers!
The maximum group size is 20 people, so reserve your spot now! If you miss this tour, then have no fear - follow @aawatershedbureau on Facebook and Instagram, along with the County Events calendar, and stay tuned for more "Watershed Walks" coming soon.
Preparing for the Event (after you've registered):
All participants must complete BWPR’s Liability Waiver & Photo Release Google Form
Bring your binoculars and download a free bird identification app (e.g. Merlin by Cornell Lab) to follow along and track the birds we see!
The event will include walking along uneven (and potentially muddy) terrain, so be prepared with water-resistant, closed-toed shoes!
