Virtual meeting tonight hosted by Aging and Disabilities
Annapolis, MD (September 24, 2020)-- In recognition of the week, which began Monday and continues through the end of the week, the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities will host a virtual Falls Prevention meeting on Thursday, September 24 at 2 pm for individuals with Parkinson's Disease and their caregivers. Each participant will need their own device to access the meeting.
In addition to its mission of empowering older adults in the county to live with greater independence and dignity, Aging and Disabilities will be providing information and tools this week on how to reduce the risk of falls, a leading cause of serious injury and death among people over age 65. The meeting will provide tips and strategies to disease sufferers and their caregivers on how to create a falls prevention action plan with the help of family members or health care professionals.
"Despite the pandemic our team at Aging and Disabilities continues to serve our older residents and their families," said County Executive Steuart Pittman, who earlier proclaimed this week Falls Prevention Awareness Week. "We all know seniors whose lives have been affected by falls that could have been prevented. Let's log in tonight and then get to work protecting our loved ones from that next fall."
"Providing county residents with information and resources is a cornerstone of the Department of Aging and Disabilities' overall mission," said Karrisa Gouin, director of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities. "Providing community education is just another step in helping individuals remain independent and safe in their homes."
