This year’s theme is “Communities of Strength”
Annapolis, MD (May 3, 2021) - Today, County Executive Steuart Pittman proclaims May 2021 as Older Americans Month in Anne Arundel County. This celebration is highlighted by the reopening of select senior activity centers in the county today. This year’s theme is “Communities of Strength." Older adults are celebrated each year to recognize the important role they play in fostering the connections and engagement that build strong, resilient communities.
“In the past year, we’ve seen our communities find strength in each other - friends, neighbors, and businesses have found new ways to support each other,” County Executive Steuart Pittman said. “Older adults are a key source of this strength. Through their experiences, successes, and difficulties, they have built resilience that helps them to face new challenges. When communities tap into this, they become stronger, too.”
Senior activity centers reopen today with a sense of relief and anticipation for what the future holds.
“Celebrating our county’s older adults today seems fitting as we reopen senior activity centers to provide a safe and healthy, social environment to enjoy the in-person activities and programs we have all missed,” said Karrisa Gouin, director of the Department of Aging and Disabilities. “We are grateful for the guidance and support we have received during this transition to reopen, and I commend our center members for their resilience and cooperation during the pandemic.”
When people of different ages, backgrounds, abilities, and talents share experiences, we help build strong communities. Together, we can find strength, and make Anne Arundel County The Best Place - For All. View Executive Proclamation here.
