Living Well Program Offers Free Workshops for Chronic Illness

Annapolis, MD (May 22, 2019) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is pleased to announce free workshops provided by the Living Well Program. This is an evidence-based chronic disease self-management program that provides adults 18 and older who have long lasting health problems with ideas to help them take charge of their health and live active and enjoyable lives.
 
Workshops to be offered:
  • Living Well with Hypertension - will be held at the Edgewater Library located at 25 Stepney Lane, Edgewater, on Tuesday, June 4th, from 5:30pm - 8pm. This workshop is available for people who have been diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure) and want to learn how to better manage their condition. 
  • Living Well with Diabetes - a workshop designed for people with prediabetes, Type 1 and 2 diabetes and/or their caregivers to help manage diabetes. This is scheduled at the Edgewater Library located at 25 Stepney Lane, Edgewater, on Tuesday, June 11th - July 16th, from 5:30pm - 8pm. This is a 6 week workshop that will meet once a week and teach participants how to manage blood sugar levels, count carbohydrates, read nutrition labels, and communicate with their health care providers, family members, and friends.
  • Living Well Chronic Conditions - will be held at Pasadena Senior Activity Center located at 4103 Mountain Road, Pasadena, on Monday, July 8th - Monday, August 12th, from 9:30am - 12pm. The workshop is available for people who have been diagnosed with any chronic condition such as arthritis, chronic pain, COPD, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, prediabetes, or any other chronic condition. 
  • Living Well with Diabetes - a workshop designed for people with prediabetes, Type 1 and 2 diabetes and/or their caregivers to help manage diabetes.  This is scheduled at the O'Malley Senior Activity Center located at 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton, on Thursday, July 11th - August 15th, from 9:30pm - 12pm. This is a 6 week workshop that will meet once a week and teach participants how to manage blood sugar levels, count carbohydrates, read nutrition labels, and communicate with their health care providers, family members, and friends.
  • Living Well with Diabetes - a workshop designed for people with prediabetes, Type 1 and 2 diabetes and/or their caregivers to help manage diabetes. This is scheduled at the Giant Grocery Store located at 6626 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie, on Tuesday, September 3rd - October 8, from 1:00pm - 3:30pm. This is a 6 week workshop that will meet once a week and teach participants how to manage blood sugar levels, count carbohydrates, read nutrition labels, and communicate with their health care providers, family members, and friends.
All workshops are presented at no cost to the public by the Living Well Program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities, but registration is required.
