Annapolis, MD (April 2, 2020) - The Anne Arundel County Office of Transportation announced a new program today designed to assist county residents who need transportation to get to the grocery store. The department’s Grocery Shopper Shuttle operates on Tuesdays for seniors only, and will be open to everyone on Thursdays. Space is limited and reservations are required.
“We are focused on ensuring all of our residents are able to access services during the COVID-19 crisis,” said County Executive Steuart Pittman. “The Grocery Shopper Shuttle will help seniors and other residents who need assistance to get to the supermarket. I am pleased to see the Office of Transportation providing this critical service.”
Passengers will be given 30 minutes to shop and the shuttle service hours are from 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The service will be offered to the following areas:
Glen Burnie
· Food Lion, 121 Crain Hwy N, Glen Burnie, MD 21061
Severn
· Walmart, Quarterfield Crossing, 415 George Clauss Blvd, Severn, MD 21144
Severna Park/Pasadena
· BJ’s Wholesale Club, Festival at Pasadena, 8131 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122
· Giant Food/Pharmacy, Severna Park Market Place, 575 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146
· Walmart, Robinson Crossing Center, 484 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146
Arnold

Reservations should be made by calling (410) 222 -0025. Reservations must be made no less than 24 hours in advance of the Tuesday or Thursday desired trip. More information is available at www.aacounty.org/transportation.
In addition, the department has initiated varies practices regarding safety of the operators and passengers for services. This includes cleaning protocols of vehicles being sanitized twice daily, in accordance with health department recommendations. All drivers are equipped with safety devices, including both gloves and masks. Social distancing guidelines have been implemented regarding the transport of all passengers.
Office of Transportation is also using its resources to aid in food deliveries in conjunction with the Department of Aging and Disabilities and Anne Arundel County Police Department. The department has also branded county transit vehicles as a reminder to make sure residents complete the 2020 Census.
“The Office of Transportation continues to Move Anne Arundel during this challenging time,” said director Ramond Robinson. “While we are seeing a reduction in transit ridership due to the crisis, we are reallocating resources to be more creative and provide much-needed service and assistance beyond normal activity.”
