Annapolis, Maryland (November 9, 2020) – Today, County Executive Pittman announced a $1 million grant program to support county nonprofit organizations that have increased financial needs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will be administered by the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC). With this new funding, CFAAC will be able to provide operational funding to between 100 to 150 nonprofits to assist their important work serving residents of all ages across the county.
“Anne Arundel County is blessed to have a strong network of local nonprofit organizations working everyday to serve our communities,” said County Executive Steuart Pittman. “I am thrilled to be able to allocate a million dollars to supporting these organizations, and to have a trusted partner in the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County to distribute the funds. I encourage anyone who has the means to contribute generously this holiday season to help these organizations through this difficult time.”
The announcement comes as COVID case rate per 100,000 residents has recently set new records for both the state (18.55) and county (20.0). The fall surge of cases now underway coincides with the traditional end of year fundraising efforts many local nonprofits depend on to support their programs. Many local nonprofits are experiencing lost income from cancelled fundraising events, lower than expected fundraising support, lost program income, or increased expenses due to state-mandated COVID-19 operational limitations on services required.
CFAAC will award grants of up to $10,000 on a rolling basis to nonprofits who fit the criteria and who demonstrate need in order to ensure the health of their organization. According to Maryland Nonprofits, there are 2,860 nonprofit organizations in Anne Arundel County that support 17,059 local jobs.
“Our local nonprofits are on the front lines every day providing essential programs and services that are helping our county residents tackle the incredible challenges we are facing as a community,” said Mary Spencer, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County. “They need all the help they can get to keep doing the important work that makes a difference to all of us. We are grateful for County Executive Pittman’s support and for the incredible partnership we share with Anne Arundel County government.”
Applications will be accepted beginning Thursday, November 12 and grant guidelines and application materials will be available on CFAAC’s website at cfaac.org. All applicants must be Anne Arundel County nonprofits that serve communities within the county.
