County Executive Pittman, Office of Planning and Zoning Launch Region Plan Engagement for North County, Glen Burnie, Severn, South Coast

Feedback Maps available for public comment until June 30

Annapolis, MD (April 5, 2023) County Executive Pittman and the Office of Planning and Zoning (OPZ) launch the beginning of the community engagement period for region plans for North County (Region 1), Glen Burnie and Severn (Region 3), and the South Coast (Region 9). This is the second round of region plans developed through the County’s Plan2040 general development plan. The deadline for comment on the feedback maps is June 30.

“Region planning is a critical local process,” said County Executive Pittman. “Community engagement at every level helps create a shared vision for the future of our communities.”

This period begins the second of three rounds of planning for targeted areas of the county. The engagement period provides opportunities for residents to develop a shared vision for the future of their communities. Key community engagement opportunities include a brief questionnaire and an online feedback map allowing stakeholders to provide input for the vision for their communities over the next 20 years.

“We are excited to be launching the second round of Region Plans and look forward to input from stakeholders that will help shape the plans,” said Jenny Jarkowski, Planning and Zoning Officer.

This round of engagement encompasses Regions 1, 3, and 9. Region 1 is the County’s northernmost region and includes Brooklyn Park, Linthicum Heights, Curtis Bay, Ferndale, BWI Airport, Harmans, and parts of Hanover. Region 3 encompasses Glen Burnie, Severn, and parts of Millersville. Region 9 includes communities in South County along the Chesapeake Bay. This region stretches from Edgewater to North Beach and is bound by MD 2 to the west. It includes the Mayo Peninsula, Galesville, West River, Shady Side, Churchton, Deale, Tracy’s Landing, North Beach, and parts of Edgewater and Friendship.

The Feedback Map, which is embedded on the Hub Sites, contains the brief questionnaire and provides an interactive tool for the public to provide input in the Region 1, 3, and 9 plans. There is one unique feedback map for each region. Maps can be accessed from www.aacounty.org/regionplanhubs, or individually at

The public can click on the map to place a pin and leave a comment, and can also click on pins added by other community members to read or respond to their ideas. Comments can be categorized with the following hashtags:

#LoveIt: existing community assets

#FixIt: challenges that need to be addressed

#DreamIt: ideas for future assets

Comments help county planners understand the community’s concerns and ideas for the future of individual neighborhoods. Feedback will be shared with Stakeholder Advisory Committees that will be set up for each Region. The information will shape what topics planners focus on, and what recommendations they eventually make.
