Annapolis, MD (September 7, 2021) - Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman announced the signing of an executive order affirming the County’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across County government, and the use of an equity lens in reviewing policies, procedures, and common practices.
“Our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion makes our government more effective at providing opportunities and services for Anne Arundel County residents,” County Executive Steuart Pittman said. “Using an equity lens to help prevent discrimination and improve outcomes in our work will truly make our county the best place - for all.”
The executive order represents the hard work and dedication of the Anne Arundel County Diversity Council in bringing an EDI approach to County government. The Diversity Council recommended Anne Arundel County adopt a mission statement demonstrating the County’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This order pulls from the Diversity Council’s proposed mission statement, and defines equity, diversity, and inclusion while affirming the use of an equity lens in the County’s review of policies, procedures, and common practices.
"The purpose of this executive order is to ensure that the county government reflects the needs of every resident, regardless of where they live," Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Pete Hill said.
