Annapolis, MD (November 23, 2024) – Anne Arundel County has been informed that Ecology Services, Inc. and Teamsters Local 570 have reached a new collective bargaining agreement, ending the strike that began in September. With the resolution in place, Ecology and its workforce will resume providing curbside collection services to residents in Service Areas 5, 8, and 15 on Monday, December 2, 2024.
“I’m pleased that curbside collection services will soon return to normal for our residents in Service Areas 5, 8, and 15,” said County Executive Steuart Pittman. “I want to congratulate Ecology Services, Inc. and Teamsters Local 570 on reaching an agreement to resolve the strike. I also want to thank our Department of Public Works and the local contractors who stepped up over the past three months to ensure essential services were maintained for our communities.”
Residents in Pasadena, Severna Park, Odenton, Laurel, and Maryland City are asked to continue placing trash, recycling, and yard waste at the curb on their normal collection day. Collection delays and service schedule disruptions are expected to end during the week of December 2, 2024.
To identify their service area and normal collection day, residents can use the Find My Collection Day feature on the County’s website by entering their address. For real-time updates and additional information, residents are encouraged to download the free Recycle Coach app, available on the App Store and Google Play, or visit the desktop site at RecycleCoach.
“Our Department of Public Works team, alongside local contractors MBG Refuse Service, Inc., Gunther Refuse Service, Inc., and Goode Companies, Inc., worked tirelessly—on evenings, weekends, and days off—to protect public health and keep our neighborhoods clean,” said Karen Henry, Director of the Department of Public Works. “I deeply appreciate their dedication and hard work throughout this challenging time.”
With the new agreement in place, Anne Arundel County looks forward to the restoration of dependable curbside collection services for all residents in the affected areas.
