GLSEN Day of Silence

Since the mid-1990’s GLSEN, an advocacy group for LGBTQ+ youth, has designated one day per year as a Day of Silence.

Executive Proclamation

The day serves as a peaceful student-led demonstration, protesting the effects of harassment and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in schools. Participants spend most of the day in silence. They end the day with Breaking the Silence rallies and events that highlight their experience, and inform the public about actions that will make schools and communities more inclusive.

This year’s Day of Silence will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023. Anne Arundel County is proud to support our LGBTQ+ youth and allies.
