We should all be reminded that crime could happen anywhere, including our trails and parks. It is therefore wise to make special efforts to protect ourselves, discourage crime and manage unexpected accidents. If possible carry a cell-phone. Tell someone where you are going and when you will return, better still exercise with a buddy. Choose a safe time and place to exercise, and exercise in a populated area. Be aware that with tall trees along both sides trails become dark quickly and officially close at dusk. Trails are not lighted at night and individuals found on the trails after dark can be charged with trespassing. Keep fully alert and aware of your surroundings at all times, don’t use headphones or other devices which diminish your ability to hear. Immediately report any suspicious or criminal activity. Telephone 911 for emergencies or situations in progress and those occurring after park hours. Report other concerns to Rangers or other personnel on the trail or the Ranger Station on Earleigh Heights Road.
