Annapolis, Maryland (April 25, 2019) – Anne Arundel County Purchasing Division of Central Services has been awarded the Outstanding Agency Accreditation Award by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP). Three years ago the Purchasing Division began a reform effort to increase the efficiency of the county’s procurement operation. This effort has resulted in over $15 million in savings, an e-Procurement system, and has reduced the average procurement cycle time by over 22 days.
“Creating efficiencies and savings in government procurement is no easy task," said County Executive Steuart Pittman. "This recognition for outstanding work on behalf of the taxpayers of our county is well deserved and makes us proud.”
Of 3,000 registered public procurement organizations in the United States, the Purchasing Division is one of only 150 to receive this accreditation. This award is a highly respected industry benchmark for top performing public procurement organizations and is determined based on efficiency and credibility.
"This national recognition demonstrates that the county's procurement professionals are among the best in the business," said Christine Romans, director of the Central Services department.
The Purchasing Division will display the trophy in the Central Services Office in the Heritage Office Complex on Riva Road, and the county has been added to the list of awardees on the NIGP website.
