Annapolis, MD (May 11, 2022) - Today, County Executive Steuart Pittman proclaims May 2022 as Older Americans Month in Anne Arundel County. This year’s theme is Age My Way which focuses on how older adults can age in their communities, living independently for as long as possible and participating in their communities in the ways they prefer.
“Older adults play vital, positive roles in our communities – as family members, friends, mentors, volunteers, civic leaders, members of the workforce, and more,” County Executive Steuart Pittman said. “Just as every person is unique, so too is how they age and choose to do it. I strongly support all of our community partners who support the health and wellness of our older adults, ensuring that they remain involved and included in our communities for as long as possible.”
The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities, in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, will host an Older Americans Month Celebration on Wednesday, May 26, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Kinder Farm Park located at 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road in Millersville, Maryland 21108. Representatives from our community partners and organizations will be available to share information about resources available to older adults and their families. The celebration will feature refreshments, live entertainment, and raffle prizes.
“The Department of Aging and Disabilities’ mission is to provide resources and services that allow older adults to live independent and meaningful lives,” said Karrisa Kelly, director of the Department of Aging and Disabilities. “We strongly believe that older adults should be able to live where they choose, with the people they choose, and with the ability to participate fully in their communities.” The Department of Aging and Disabilities offers resource navigation and support services for older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and anyone interested in planning for their future.
