Growing up, one of my favorite shows to watch was the Price is Right. I was always taken by Bob Barker's tag line to "spay and neuter" your pet. As an adult, I recognize that he was an animal lover who hoped to make some sort of impact on animal welfare from his television platform. As an animal lover, I can appreciate that. With that in mind, I share that the Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control agency continues to be full of adoptable animals. For the first time in decades, the shelter has been faced with difficult decisions. Staff does all they can to place animals with partner rescue groups to make room for more animals, but the intake flow has not decreased. If you are considering adding a family pet to your home, please first consider adopting.
If you aren't able to take on a lifelong pet, but want to help, please consider being a foster. Foster households do not have to pay for the care of the animal and will give an opportunity for the pet to get comfortable in a home environment and show their true personality in a low stress environment, compared to a shelter. This will only aid in their success in finding a forever home.
