Founded in 1972, Bello Machre’s founding parents had a dream for a better life for their sons and daughters; they knew that in order to access a safe and loving environment for their children, they needed to create it themselves. By the early 1980s, Bello Machre opened its first community home in Glen Burnie. This program allows individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to craft connections, live joyfully, and find meaning in their community.
Bello Machre provides a lifetime of loving care and opportunity for people with developmental disabilities in a variety of ways. Their Residential Services provide a secure place for residents to feel safe and loved — within Bello Machre-owned group homes. Live-in caregivers support small community living with three to four people in the home, helping each person grow, develop, and live life to their fullest. Meaningful Day Services provide day programs for adults with developmental disabilities through customized, community-based services. This includes social, recreational, and educational opportunities. Bello Machre also provides an Employment Services program, which helps individuals with developmental disabilities discover meaningful careers within their community. Personal Supports Services provide individuals with developmental disabilities access to the community to attend meaningful activities of their choosing in a one-on-one environment.
Recipient of the 2024 Community Support Grant, Bello Machre has been able to provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities transitioning into their residential services with items to make them feel more secure and comfortable in their new homes. They are able to support some of the most vulnerable people in the community with these funds.
