Crownsville Advisory Committee Submits 2024 Annual Report

Crownsville, MD (July 11, 2024) - The Crownsville Advisory Committee, the volunteer body responsible for advising the County Executive and County Departments in the planning process of Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park, has released its 2024 Annual Report. The report includes the recommendations from four subcommittees for consideration in the master plan.

“I am truly inspired by the recommendations in the Subcommittee reports, the Advisory Committee report, and the concepts that will be presented by the consultants to the public tonight,” said County Executive Pittman. “The alignment of vision demonstrates to me that all parties are being heard.”

The draft master plan, which is underway and scheduled to be released in early fall, will also include recommendations from the public. The third public workshop for the master plan will be held tonight, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Rolling Knolls Elementary School, and county residents are encouraged to participate. This workshop-style public meeting is an opportunity for community members to evaluate initial concepts and drawings of the planned park, provide input on the master plan, and receive answers to questions from officials with the Department of Public Works.

Crownsville Hospital opened in 1911 as a treatment facility for African American patients. In 2022, Anne Arundel County acquired the deed from the State of Maryland. County officials are actively working with local, state, and federal partners, and community stakeholders to preserve the site's history and create a space for healing.
