PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This posting will be used to fill a Full Time contractual Program Coordinator position with the National Family Caregiver Support Program within the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.

This professional provides support services to family caregivers, ultimately supporting older adults, adults with a disability, and children in kinship care. Work involves extensive contact with the public, community organizations, and other agencies.

NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK

This position coordinates all aspects of the National Family Caregiver Support Program, assisting and supporting family caregivers so they can continue to provide in-home care to their family members. 

The employee will assist with providing dementia and caregiving education to various groups throughout the County.

This position oversees the Telephone Reassurance Program including, recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers as well as assisting program clients as needed.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Evaluates and assesses the needs and level of stress of caregivers who call for assistance. Provides consultation and individual counseling with family caregivers.

Provides comprehensive assistance to include information and resources appropriate to individual caregiver's needs. Considers medical, psycho-social, and environmental needs of care recipients and refers to internal and external resources as needed. 

Collaborates with other Department of Aging and Disabilities’ programs and external programs.

Develops and provides creative solutions to caregiver issues.

Maintains accurate records and documentation on caregivers and care recipients who use NFCSP resources and services.

Monitors efficiency and effectiveness of the program. Collects outcome and uses results to work with Program Director to modify program as needed.

Co-facilitates Dementia LiveĀ® training and other workshops with family and professional caregivers, Department staff, emergency response staff, library personnel, high school students, and community members.

Assists in planning and facilitating caregiver events, such as workshops, dinners, and conferences.

Independently oversees Telephone Reassurance Program from coordinating application process, to facilitating orientation training, preparing monthly volunteer scheduling, and overseeing volunteers and part-time staff. 

Maintains paper files and spreadsheets and enters required data into Apricot database for caregiver and care recipient activities.

Maximizes community awareness of available caregiver support and education programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of the Older Americans Act, other laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to older adults, adults with a disability, and caregivers.

Considerable knowledge of human services systems, programs, and benefits for older adults, adults with a disability, and caregivers.

Ability to clearly express ideas, both orally and in writing.

Skills in interviewing and counseling caregivers and clients.

Skills in interpreting client information and making appropriate referrals.

Ability to maintain accurate client records and statistical information.

Applicants must be proficient in Google mail, docs, slides, and worksheets.

Applicants must be available for occasional evening and weekend duties.

Ability to work 1-2 evenings per month.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university; and one (1) or more years of experience in a program/specialization area directly related to the assignment of the position. 

SUPPLEMENTAL QUALIFICATIONS

Preference given to applicants with 2 or more years of experience in providing support services to family caregivers.
