The Blue Ribbon Project’s mission is to prevent all forms of child abuse and provide critical support to victims of abuse and neglect. Based in Anne Arundel County, the nonprofit’s impact extends to Baltimore city and eleven other counties in Maryland. Its work involves community engagement to raise awareness as well as activate a network of support for abused and neglected children, youth in foster care, and adult survivors.
The Blue Ribbon Project is a collaboration of survivors, victims, and professionals from various fields. Founded by an adult survivor of child abuse, this nonprofit employs a community approach of mutual help and guidance in overcoming obstacles which acknowledges the lifelong impact of abuse and neglect.
The Blue Ribbon Project has many programs that support the wellbeing of Anne Arundel County residents. Mirah’s Closet as well as Backpacks of Love provide essential items to children in foster care and Foster Friends as well as Celebration Club connect them with positive experiences like enriching after school activities and birthday celebrations. Aging Up… Not Out Life Skills Training Program and College Support Fund help promote better outcomes for young people coming of age. A Hand to Hold Youth Alliance provides resources, tutoring, and guidance to youth who are in need of additional resources not provided by other programs. Referrals are made to The Blue Ribbon Project by the Department of Social Services as well as Court Appointed Special Advocates.
Community members can register themselves for the Adult Survivors of Childhood Trauma Support Group and monitor Upcoming Events which may include training programs. Volunteers are key to The Blue Ribbon Project’s programs, and their Volunteer page includes information about becoming a member of their Leadership Team.
