Glen Burnie Man to Serve Nearly Three Years in Jail for Manslaughter of Brooklyn Park Father

Annapolis, Maryland – A Glen Burnie man will serve nearly three years in jail for his role in an altercation that resulted in a manslaughter conviction for the death of a Brooklyn Park father, State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess announced.

Trevor Garrett Taylor, 27, was sentenced to 10 years with all but 18 months on Friday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis. He agreed to waive the more than 15 months of time served since his arrest in July 2023, and will now serve his additional jail time. He will be on five years of supervised probation upon release.

"This case sets the example of how actions can have serious consequences," Leitess said. "What began as a petty disagreement between middle school boys turned into a lifechanging event when adults inserted themselves into the dispute instead of leading by example. Instead of showing the right way to handle a disagreement, they got physical. Sadly, in this case, a loving father lost his life."

On May 19, 2023, Anne Arundel County police were called to West Arundel Road in Brooklyn Park for an injured person. Upon arrival, they found Christopher Wright suffering from a head injury. He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died from his injuries the next day.

Investigation revealed Mr. Wright's 14-year-old son had been in a physical altercation with Taylor's 14-year-old nephew at school earlier in the day. When the boy returned home, his father, Mr. Wright, was gardening in the front yard. Mr. Wright entered the home and told his son that his friends were out front to see him. The boy told his father the group was there to resume the altercation from school.

The boy, his brother, and Mr. Wright exited the home to confront the group, which included Trevor Taylor. An altercation occurred between Mr. Wright and Taylor, with Taylor slamming Mr. Wright to the ground, injuring his head.

Police canvassed the neighborhood and located a nearby camera that captured the incident. Taylor can be seen approaching the residence of Mr. Wright with his nephew, two boys, and another man. Video showed Mr. Wright being approached by Taylor before punching him in the face and backing away. Taylor and the other man then advanced on Mr. Wright, with Taylor eventually punching Mr. Wright in the face. At one point, the men were between two parked vehicles when Taylor grabbed both of Mr. Wright's legs, causing him to strike his head on the asphalt. Taylor continued to punch Mr. Wright in the head as he lay on the ground before stopping and stepping away.

The Chief Medical Examiner would later rule Mr. Wright's death was caused by the head injury sustained in the altercation.

On January 25, 2024, Trevor Taylor entered guilty pleas to Involuntary Manslaughter and Affray.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State's Attorney Joshua Adrian and Assistant State's Attorney Brian Pritchard on behalf of the citizens of Anne Arundel County, with the Honorable Stacy McCormack presiding.
