Homicide Investigation (Update) - Severn

On March 4, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers responded for a report of a shooting in the 8100 block of Meade Village Road in Severn. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers provided medical aid until relieved by Fire Department personnel, who pronounced one of the victims, identified as 23-year-old Derrick Purcell Ahmad McDonald of Severn, Maryland, deceased at the scene. The other male, identified as 28-year-old Mack Samuel Galloway III, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, was transported to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Another victim, a 26-year-old male, was injured by a possible metal fragment resulting from the gunfire and was transported to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He was not shot.
Responding officers located a vehicle near Pioneer Drive and Jacobs Road occupied by two males who were believed to have been involved in the shooting. The passenger of the vehicle had an apparent gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. The driver was uninjured.
Homicide Unit detectives arrived on the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Detectives and Evidence Collection Unit personnel collected multiple items of evidentiary value at the crime scene and from the vehicle, and several witnesses were located and interviewed regarding the shooting. While detectives are still working to establish a motive for the shooting, the preliminary investigation indicates this was a targeted incident and not a random act of violence.

Update (March 7, 2025)
The Anne Arundel County Police Department's Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate this homicide. Through the investigation, detectives learned that several individuals were playing basketball on the basketball court at the end of Meade Village Road. At some point, there was a dispute between individuals at the basketball court, which escalated to an exchange of gunfire between several subjects.
The two individuals in the vehicle located at Pioneer Drive & Jacobs Road had called 911 within minutes to report the incident and their involvement with the shooting. Officers observed damage to the vehicle consistent with gunfire. Both of these individuals have been cooperating with detectives on this investigation.
Witness interviews, forensic examination, and evaluation of evidence continue. Detectives are working toward understanding what started the dispute, determining who started the exchange of gunfire, and if any other individuals were involved. Detectives are in consultation with the Anne Arundel County State Attorney’s Office regarding this investigation.
