Oceanic Drive Ramp to Eastbound Rt 50 to Host a Test of Traffic Metering.
The Broadneck Council (BCC) has been engaged in ongoing communications with MDOT Secretary - Jim Ports, SHA Administrator, Tim Smith and MDTA Administrator- Will Pines, to determine an effective solution to Bay Bridge summer traffic on our Route 50/301 service roads.
Beginning on August 4 through August 7, MDOT SHA will perform a pilot ramp-management operation for two consecutive weekends (Thursday through Sunday) to collect more traffic data on the ramp from Oceanic Drive to eastbound US 50/301. The pilot operation will consist of a portable signal, allowing one car through the green and then holding the rest of the traffic for a longer period before letting the next car through. Maryland State Police will be on-site for enforcement.
The hours of the pilot ramp-management operation will be:
- Thursday, August 4: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. / Friday, August 5: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
- Saturday, Aug. 6: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. / Sunday, August 7: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Motorists will continue to be reminded to stay on US 50/US 301 to Reach the Beach. Motorists who choose to use the service roads can expect significant delays and traffic impacts which should encourage travelers to stay on US 50/US 301. This pilot is part of a partnering effort with the local Broadneck community to explore traffic relief options near the Bay Bridge and encourage motorists to stay on Route 50/US 301. MDOT SHA remains committed to finding innovative solutions to connect our customers to life's opportunities. For real-time traffic conditions, visit roads.maryland.gov.
