On January 31, 2023, at approximately 5:15 p.m., officers responded for a report of an armed subject in the 7400 block of New Ridge Road in Hanover. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect, whom witnesses described as being distraught, intoxicated, and armed with a handgun. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. During a subsequent search, officers located a black semi-automatic handgun and a civil amount of suspected marijuana. While completing their investigation, officers learned that the suspect was on pretrial release in an attempted murder case from a neighboring jurisdiction and prohibited from possessing a firearm. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly.

In December of 2022, Anne Arundel County Detention Center personnel intercepted a container of contraband as it entered the detention facility. The interception of the container prompted an investigation that was carried out by Anne Arundel County - Maryland State Police Strategic Operations Group detectives. On January 4, 2023, arrest warrants were issued in connection with the investigation. With assistance from Southern District and Eastern District Tactical Patrol Units, the task force was able to locate and serve warrants on the three suspects connected to the case. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Anne Arundel County - Maryland State Police Strategic Operations Group, Southern TPU, Eastern TPU, and the AACo Detention Center.
