Homicide - Glen Burnie

On August 26, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers responded to the rear of 604 Crain Highway for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, the officers located an adult male victim, later identified as Darius Davon Matthews, 29, of Glen Burnie, suffering from a gunshot wound. Mr. Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County Fire department personnel. During the course of their investigation, detectives were able to identify a person of interest who was taken into custody on unrelated charges.

The Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit is investigating. Evidence recovered from the scene indicates this was a targeted incident. There are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.

Carjacking - Glen Burnie

On August 28, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a carjacking that occurred in the 7500 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. The 55-year-old male was in his vehicle, a white 2006 Ford Taurus, when an unknown male suspect opened his car door, threw the victim to the ground, and drove off with his vehicle. The victim was treated at the scene by EMS for minor injuries. Carjacking - Glen Burnie

On August 28, 2022, at approximately 1:25 a.m., officers were called to respond to the area of Hidden Brook Drive and Secluded Post Circle in Glen Burnie for a report of a carjacking at approximately midnight. The 39-year-old male victim was getting into his vehicle, a gray 2016 Dodge Challenger, when a gold Hyundai pulled up nearby. The passenger of the Hyundai approached the victim, implied he had a handgun, and demanded the victim’s wallet and keys. The victim complied, and the suspect drove off with the victim’s car, followed by the Hyundai. There were no in juries reported in this incident. Eastern District detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information to contact 410-222-6145 or the Tip Line at 410-222-4700.

Non-Contact Shooting - Deale

On August 29, 2022, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers responded to the area of Muddy Creek Road and Plantation Boulevard in reference to shots being fired. Officers met with the victim whose vehicle had been shot by an acquaintance after a verbal altercation. The suspect shot at the victim, striking her vehicle. There were no injuries reported during this incident, and a rifle was recovered from the scene. The below suspects were arrested and charged accordingly.

Serious Injury Crash - Lothian

On August 27, 2022, at 9:45 p.m., officers responded to southbound Southern Maryland Boulevard (Route 4) and Talbot Road for a crash involving a car and a motorcycle. The investigation revealed the driver of a 2019 Honda Accord was driving eastbound on the Talbot Road crossover and made a right turn onto southbound Route 4 in front of a 2022 Harley Davidson FLHXS Street Glide motorcycle, which was traveling in the southbound lanes. The rider of the Harley Davidson was unable to avoid striking the Honda and was ejected from the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Southern District
Serious Injury Crash - Owings
22-730182

On August 28, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Southern District officers were dispatched to a traffic crash in the 600 block of West Chesapeake Road in Owings. The investigation revealed that a 2016 Toyota was either stopped or slowing while preparing to make a left turn from westbound West Chesapeake Road into a private driveway. At the same time, a 2022 Ford truck traveling westbound on West Chesapeake Road approached the Toyota from the rear, and the two vehicles collided. This collision caused the Toyota to rotate, leave the roadway and turn onto its passenger side after striking a roadside berm. The Ford came to rest in the travel lane.

Anne Arundel County Paramedics responded to the scene to treat the victims. Three occupants of the Toyota and the driver of the Ford were transported to area hospitals for treatment. 

The Traffic Safety Section is investigating.
