Annapolis, MD (March 24, 2022) - County Executive Steuart Pittman today announced the opening of the Lula G. Scott Community Center Nutrition Site. The center, located at 6243 Shady Side Road in Shady Side, Maryland, will open on Monday, April 4, 2022. The Nutrition Site will operate Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
"My administration and I strongly support any projects and initiatives that promote the health and wellness of our constituents," announced County Executive Steuart Pittman. “This nutrition site will provide access to healthy meals and opportunities for socialization to the residents of the Shady Side and surrounding communities, areas that are often underserved in Anne Arundel County.”
Originally built as a school, the Lula G. Scott Community Center has operated as the location of a variety of programs in the community, including eight years as the South County Senior Activity Center. The Anne Arundel Department of Aging and Disabilities returns to the Lula G. Scott Community Center where the Senior Nutrition Program will begin to serve free, healthy meals to adults 60 years of age and older. The Lula G. Scott Community Center Nutrition Site will operate as one of 21 nutrition sites across Anne Arundel County. The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities will also provide options counseling through its Information and Assistance Program (Maryland Access Point). Residents will have the ability to meet with a staff member who will connect them with eligible resources and services.

Scott Community Center will enable us to establish greater connections and deliver more services to these residents while providing access to healthy meals and wellness education.”
The Senior Nutrition Program will begin serving lunch daily Monday through Friday beginning on Monday, April 4, 2022. Anyone interested in receiving lunch during the week of April 4th should contact the Senior Nutrition Program at (410) 222-0256 no later than Monday, March 28, 2022 to sign up.
On April 21, 2022, the Department of Aging and Disabilities will host an open house at the Lula G. Scott Community Center from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Participants can take a tour of the center and get information on the types of resources and services available at the center. A free lunch will be provided by the Senior Nutrition Program.
