Fatal Crash / Laurel

On October 11, 2021, at approximately 7:30 p.m.officers responded to Laurel Fort Meade Road near Laureldale Drive for a crash involving a pedestrian.
The investigation revealed that a pedestrian was in the travel portion of westbound Laurel Fort Meade Road near Laureldale Drive when he was struck by a 2016 Hyundai Accent. The pedestrian was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Preliminarily, pedestrian error is believed to be the primary cause of this crash. The crash is currently under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section.
On October 22, 2021, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

On October 22, 2021, officers responded to the area of Quarterfield Road and Old Stage Road for a traffic accident. During the traffic investigation, officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the at-fault vehicle. A search of the vehicle and recovered a loaded handgun, 100.94 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, and $771.00 in cash. The Maryland Gun Center advised the subject was prohibited from owning a handgun. The driver of the vehicle was charged accordingly.

On October 23, 2021, at approximately 8:00 a.m. an adult male was walking down West Nursery Road when he was assaulted and shot multiple times. The victim was transported to an area trauma center in serious/critical condition. Detectives believe the victim was targeted and do not believe this to be a random act of violence. On October 23, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m. officers responded to the area of Annapolis Road and Rockenbach Road for a report of occupants of two vehicles shooting at each other while driving along Annapolis Road. Officers located multiple shell casings, but no victims. As of this report, no known victims have surfaced and there is no additional information. On October 24, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m. officers responded to the area near the basketball court on Stillmeadows Drive in Severn for a shooting. Upon arrival, they located two adult shooting victims. Both victims were transported to area hospitals. Victim 1 is listed in serious/critical condition and Victim 2 has non-life-threatening injuries. On October 23, 2021 officers initiated a traffic stop on a Nissan Altima for a traffic violation. Probable cause was developed and a loaded .22 caliber Colt handgun and marijuana were recovered off of a passenger of the vehicle. The passenger was prohibited from carrying a firearm and charged accordingly.
