On October 11, 2021, at approximately 2:30 a.m. officers responded to the parking lot of Murph’s Liquors located at 6023 Ritchie Highway for an armed robbery that just occurred. The victim (employee) advised he was leaving the business with another employee and a deposit bag. A vehicle stopped on Ritchie Highway in front of the business and a suspect got out displaying a handgun. The suspect demanded the deposit bag, got back into the vehicle, and fled onto northbound Ritchie Highway. Attempted Citizen Robbery / Glen Burnie

On October 9, 2021, at approximately 10:00 a.m. officers responded to the area of Irene Drive and Nancy Drive in Glen Burnie for a citizen robbery. A female victim advised she was walking when she felt someone grab her purse. The victim turned and attempted to grab pepper spray she carries. The suspect pushed the victim to the ground and fled the area on foot. Officers and K9s conducted a search but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. On October 10, 2021, at approximately 5:15 p.m. officers responded to the area of Magothy Park Lane and Breezeway Drive for a robbery of a citizen. A juvenile was assaulted by two subjects. During the assault, the suspects stole money from the victim. The victim attempted to take his money back and was assaulted again. Eastern District Detectives began their investigation and have charged three juveniles with the robbery and assault. On October 8, 2021, at approximately 11:45 p.m. officers responded to the 8500 block of Pioneer Drive in Severn for a report of shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of shots being fired but no victims or property damage was located. Charges filed against a PCO

On July 20, 2021, the Office of Professional Standards received a complaint of fraud against a dispatcher with the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Brandy Quarles, a 27-year-old, was accused of sick leave fraud/theft. Ms. Quarles gave multiple sick notes to her supervision from a doctor advising she would need extended sick leave beginning in June of 2021. Through investigative means, it was learned that the sick notes were fraudulent. Ms. Quarles was hired and working with another agency in their dispatch training program, thus getting paid fraudulently by AACoPD. Ms. Quarles allegedly defrauded the county of over $4,300.00 and separated from the agency with the Anne Arundel County Police Department upon the initiation of this investigation. Ms. Quarles was hired by the Anne Arundel County Police Department in May of 2018. Detectives received a criminal summons charging Ms. Quarles with Theft Scheme, she was served on the summons by another jurisdiction.
