County Executive Pittman Announces Veterans Service Coordination Center

Partnership with the Anne Arundel County Veterans Affairs Commission will serve county veterans

Annapolis, Maryland (November 11, 2020) – Today, County Executive Pittman announced the formation of the Veterans Service Coordination Center, a joint effort with the county’s Veterans Affairs Commission, to serve Anne Arundel County veterans and their military family members.

The center will serve as a single point of contact for members of the military to access veteran services and resource supports in the county. The establishment of the center delivers on a recommendation from the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs in the County Executive’s Transition Report, which called for a veterans assistance center. The center will assist in the navigation of available resources, promote activities that serve veterans of all ages, and collaborate with other service providers to address critical issues.

“I want to thank our Veterans Affairs Commission for working so hard to make sure their fellow veterans get the services they need,” said County Executive Pittman. “I am grateful for the service of the 60,000 veterans who call Anne Arundel County home, and it is my honor to serve them with this new initiative.”

Anne Arundel County Military and Veterans Liaison Pete Smith will manage the center, in collaboration with the Office of the County Executive, the Office of Community Engagement and Constituent Services, other county departments, and the Veterans Affairs Commission.

“Finding a path to do more for those who serve is truly a worthwhile endeavor. For the countless sacrifices that veterans have made, it’s only right that we try to serve them,” said Pete Smith.

Residents can access this virtual resource at www.aacounty.org/boards-and-commissions/veterans-affairs-commission. Members of the center held their first meeting recently with representatives of each county department to begin educating them on this resource and all the services available to veterans in our county.
