Virtual Caregiver Educational Workshops Offered

Annapolis, MD (April 15, 2020) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is pleased to announce two (2) upcoming virtual Caregiver Educational Workshops.

On Monday, April 20, 2020, at 7:00 pm, Jennifer FitzPatrick, MSW, CSP, will present At Home with a Loved One with Dementia: Maintaining a Routine while Social Distancing. The world has become acquainted overnight with the term "social distancing". While this pandemic prevention strategy is vital, it impacts family caregivers and patients with dementia particularly hard. Join us for this interactive program on how to create a new routine with your loved one who has dementia. Also discussed will be what you can glean from this difficult time about dementia and your long-term caregiving strategy.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, also at 7:00 pm, Ms. FitzPatrick will present When You Are Already a Worrier: How to Manage Anxiety During these Unprecedented Times. It's a tense, uncertain time for everyone. But what about the nearly 20% of our population who already suffer with an anxiety disorder? What strategies are most effective in helping your loved one and yourself if you struggle from one of these conditions? This session will help you better understand how anxiety disorder symptoms are being triggered during this international health crisis and how to respond to yourself and your loved one compassionately.

Jennifer FitzPatrick is the founder of Jenerations Health Education, Inc. She has over 20 years of experience in healthcare and gerontology. The author of Cruising Through Caregiving: Reducing the Stress of Caring for Your Loved One, she is also a gerontology instructor at Johns Hopkins University.
