Annapolis, Maryland (March 22, 2019) – The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works has reported a sanitary sewer overflow this morning at the Patuxent Water Reclamation Facility in Crofton. The overflow occurred approximately 120 feet downstream of the final outfall location resulting in 34,400 gallons of fully treated and disinfected effluent to be discharged prior to the permitted discharge point. The overflow impacted the Little Patuxent River. The Anne Arundel County Health Department of Maryland Department of Environment were notified.
Signs were posted and the impacted area inside the Patuxent WRF was cleaned with lime. The overall is the result of an improperly installed manhole frame and cover that was pushed off during heavy rain. The contractor has been instructed to make necessary repair to the manhole frame and cover.
