Jennifer Road Detention Center Visitation

The Jennifer Road Detention Center is a place of business and public agency.  Therefore, revealing, suggestive and provocative attire is prohibited.  Visitors shall be required to wear footwear and dress in an appropriate fashion.

The following apparel will not be permitted for either male or female visitors:

• See-through apparel
• Shirts and blouses with plunging necklines
• Pants and shorts with high-cut splits
• Halter tops
• Cropped shirts or jerseys
• Mini skirts or dresses
• No shorts above the mid-thigh line
• Form fitting clothes, such as leotards, spandex and leggings
• Clothes that expose a person’s midriff, side or back
• Tube tops/tank tops

The above list is not all inclusive. If a member of the Detention Center’s staff determines attire to be inappropriate, revealing, suggestive or provocative, you will be asked to leave and return appropriately attired. 

Jennifer Road Visitation Rules

• Inmates are permitted two (2) visits per week with friends and family members on a non-contact basis.
• Up to two (2) adults and two (2) children are permitted into the lobby to visit an inmate at one time, provided they check in together. (NOTE: Children must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian)
• Visits are up to one (1) hour.

• ALL VISITORS are required to present a valid, unexpired driver’s license, government issued ID or a passport. If presenting a passport, visitors must provide a piece of mail (utility bill, phone bill, etc.) displaying their current mailing address. 
• Commissary Deposits can be made at accesscorrections.com, by phone at (866) 345-1884 or using the kiosk located in the Detention Center Lobby. 
• All visitors MUST be checked in at least 30 minutes prior to the end of each visiting session. *NO EXCEPTIONS* 
• MASKS, WHILE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED, ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED FOR ENTRY. 

Beginning December 17, 2021, the following mail practices shall be enforced:

All incoming mail must be sent to the facility in plain white, legal or letter sized envelopes and must be written on plain or lined white paper. All mail must include the inmate’s first and last name, sender’s first and last name and complete return address.

Any mail that does adhere to the following rules shall be processed as contraband. This list is not all-inclusive.

One of three things shall happen if we discover contraband in your mail:

1. We will return it to you. 
2. We will destroy it if it presents a health or safety hazard to person or facility. 
3. We will confiscate it as evidence in a criminal investigation.

Depending on the degree of contraband violation, we may restrict any future correspondence you have with an inmate.

• Drugs (legal or illegal)
• Containing food, clothing or cosmetic items
• Adhesive material of any kind including stickers, tape, labels (including return address labels), decals, wax, etc.
• Paper clips, staples, binder clips
• Letter or envelope decorated with beads, ribbons, springs, glitter, etc.
• Use of colored pencils, markers, glitter pens, gel pens, crayons, paint, watercolors, hi-lighters, inked rubber stamps or any colored ink pen other than blue or black
• Correction tape or fluid (Wite-Out, etc.)
• Greeting cards, note cards, musical cards, recordable cards, homemade cards or poster cards
• Colored envelopes or colored stationery
• Padded envelopes
• Any non-paper items: plastic, metal, laminated, cardboard, cardstock, electronic, etc.
• Anything gang related (photos, colors, writing symbols or hand gestures)
• Correspondence in code or suspected code
• Blank paper, blank envelopes, postage stamps
• Items having stains or suspicious/unidentifiable substances or markings (including lipstick, bodily fluid, perfume)
• Mail scented with perfume or other odors
• Paper or envelopes that appear to have been wet and then dried or show any signs of water or liquid damage (blurred/altered ink, stains, etc.)
• Pages or clippings from magazines, books or newspaper
• Photos or drawings of nude, obscene or sexually explicit material
• Photos that do not meet the following criteria:
  • Must come from approved facility vendor(s) only
  • No larger than 4” x 6”
• Identification cards, credit/debit cards and/or reproductions thereof
• Lottery tickets or prepaid telephone cards
• Mail that violates a no-contact order or other court order
• Cash, personal checks, second-party checks or money orders
• Sports statistics for gambling
• Paper folded in the form of origami
• Envelope containing more than ten (10) sheets of paper per envelope
• Envelopes larger than a standard business envelope (4”x9 ½”) or containing metal clasps
• Books 
• If magazines or newspaper are not new and sent directly from the publisher or approved internet distributor 
   

Under Md. Code, CR § 9-412, introduction of contraband into a correctional facility is a crime punishable by up to 3 years imprisonment or a fine of up to$1,000 or both.
