Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place in Meade Village Park at 9 a.m. on June 4
Severn, MD (May 30, 2023) - Today Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman announced the county’s participation in The Chase Your Dreams Initiative’s new project, Hoops for Hope, and invited community members to attend the Ribbon Cutting at Meade Village Park (1750 Meade Village Circle, Severn) at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 4. The ceremony will include remarks from Trevelin Queen, an Indiana Pacers NBA player and former Anne Arundel County resident. The ceremony will be followed by the annual Tunnel Vision League basketball tournament.
This partnership between The Chase Your Dreams Initiative, Office of the County Executive, and Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks includes park upgrades in Meade Village of two new basketball courts, a new parking lot, and a new mural that will be installed and led by Tunnel Vision’s lead designer and renowned muralist Comacell Brown.
“Hoops for Hope creates community and connection through art and athletics, in a place where it's needed most," said County Executive Pittman. “I want to thank Kyle Williams, Comacell Brown, and our Rec and Parks team for making this happen.”
Over the past month the county has been installing these improvements while Mr. Brown led a team of artists, Meade Village residents, and volunteers to create a court mural. This project has already begun uniting residents at this new space for youth and adults to connect with one another and pursue their athletic and artistic dreams.
“Our team is very excited about this partnership to bring the community together,” said Jessica Leys, Director of the Department of Recreation and Parks. “We’re grateful we’ve been able to work with Tunnel Vision and the Chase Your Dreams Initiative to make this vision a reality for the Meade Village community.”
As the work on the project wraps up this week, members of the media can contact Kyle Williams at 443-565-4728 or via email at kwilliams@thetunnelvision.com to arrange additional interviews or project filming.
“This project would not be possible without the investment of the county and our event sponsors and their belief in our vision,” sayid Kyle Williams, CEO of Tunnel Vision and President & Co-Founder of The Chase Your Dreams Initiative. “We’re honored to lead this project and will continue to uplift our community through sports while breaking barriers to improve the quality of life for our youth and residents of Anne Arundel County.”
“It’s important for me to return to my home where my dreams of one day playing in the NBA started, and be able to give back and give others hope,” shared Trevelin Queen, Indiana Pacers NBA Guard and graduate of North County High School. “Investing in a project like this shows that we care about investing in the well-being of our future young leaders.”
