Anne Arundel County Launches Stakeholder Advisory Committee Applications for Regions 1, 3, 9

Deadline to apply to Stakeholder Advisory Committees is July 11

Annapolis, MD (May 17, 2023) County Executive Steuart Pittman and the Office of Planning and Zoning announced the launch of applications for individuals interested in serving on the second round of Region Plan Stakeholder Advisory Committees (SACs) covering Regions 1, 3 and 9. 

“Stakeholder Advisory Committees ensure that residents and business owners have a say in the future of their communities” said County Executive Steuart Pittman. “I look forward to their leadership as we continue through the region planning process.”

Each SAC will be made up of a diverse mix of the region’s civic, business, environmental, and other stakeholders, including residents of the planning area or those who own or manage a business within the planning area. The group meets regularly to collaborate on goals and actions and makes recommendations on proposed zoning changes during the comprehensive zoning process.

The incoming SACs will focus on the following planning areas:

  •  Region 1 - Linthicum Heights, Brooklyn Park, Curtis Bay, Ferndale, and parts of Hanover and Severn
  • Region 3 - Glen Burnie, Severn, and part of Millersville

  • Region 9 - North Beach, Tracy’s Landing, Deale, Churchton, Shadyside, West River, Galesville, Mayo, and Edgewater

“Once selected, Stakeholder Advisory Committee members have the honor of formally engaging with others on behalf of the communities they represent,” said Jenny Jarkowski, Planning and Zoning Officer. “Appointed members have the responsibility of making recommendations from their understanding of the unique issues, characteristics, and strengths of each region.”

Individuals interested in serving on the SAC for one of these regions can visit the Office of Planning and Zoning’s Region Plan website to apply at aacounty.org/regionplans. The site includes a brief handbook with details on the Region Plan process and the SAC Charter to outline the anticipated commitment.

The County Executive and County Council will work together to nominate, appoint, and seat members of the committees. Applications are available at aacounty.org/regionplans, and entries will be accepted until 11:59 pm on July 11, 2023.

The County Council adopted Plan2040, the County’s General Development Plan, in May of 2021. Plan2040 outlines a regional planning process to provide more detailed guidance for development in different areas of the County and to provide more opportunity for residents to participate in planning for the future of their communities. The Region Plans and their recommendations will align with the goals and policies of Plan2040 and build on the Small Area Plans prepared in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The County will complete nine Region Plans in total, in groups of three regions at a time, over three consecutive rounds. Each plan is expected to take 24 months to complete. The first round is underway and includes Regions 2, 4, and 7. Visit the Region Hub sites for more information.
