The State Highway Administration has chosen PILOT 3 for this summer. This pilot is an attempt to mitigate nonresidential beach traffic from using local roads as traffic "jumps". This pilot is NOT permanent.
If successful, SHA will consider this option for regular use. The pilot will be monitored, and results reviewed for potential adjustments in the future.
On June 28, SHA permanently closed the eastbound US 50 entry and exit ramps at Whitehall Road (Exit 31). This closure will reduce potential conflicts and improve safety and operations at the Whitehall Road/Skidmore Drive intersection.
Beginning July 13, and continuing through the Labor Day weekend, SHA will temporarily close the entrance ramps from Whitehall Road (Exit 30) and Oceanic Drive (Exit 32) to eastbound US 50/301 as part of this year's pilot ramp management project.
The temporary closures will be in effect from 10 a.m. Thursdays through 6 p.m. Sundays. Motorists wishing to access eastbound US 50/301 from Whitehall Road, Skidmore Drive, Oceanic Drive and Old Ferry Slip Road must enter from Busch's Frontage Road/St. Margaret’s Road during those hours.
If you want to share your thoughts on the pilot ramp management project, please email SHA at shainput@mdot.maryland.gov.
Please help spread the word so your neighbors are aware.
