POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Coordinator. The ADR Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Court’s ADR programs for civil (domestic, non-domestic, and foreclosure) cases. In addition, the ADR Coordinator serves as a resource for members
of the bench, litigants, attorneys, and ADR panel members.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
- Monitoring ADR programs and panels for performance, efficiency, and compliance with relevant Court policies and procedures, applicable laws, and ADR standard operating procedures.
- Communicating regularly with ADR panel members to answer questions and ensure
compliance with policies and procedures. - Monitoring cases throughout the ADR process, including data collection and
preparation of orders. - Managing the ADR grant, including preparing the annual application and quarterly
reports. - Facilitating payment for grant-funded ADR services that qualify for fee waivers.
- Performing analyses of data on a periodic basis and summarizing data in terms of
trends or indications of problem areas, service gaps, and/or ADR efficacy relative to
the goals and objective of the court’s Differentiated Case Management Plans and
implementing solutions based on data outcomes and trends. - Supporting civil and family paralegals in pretrial settlement conference
responsibilities. - Recruiting and evaluating applications of prospective panel members.
- Reviewing parenting plans created as a result of Court ordered ADR.
- Planning and hosting ADR training programs.
- In collaboration with Maryland’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO),
developing and implementing web-based survey tools and gathering and analyzing
survey data for programmatic quality assurance, efficacy, and improvement needs. - Screening cases for and facilitating the Court’s in-house foreclosure ADR.
- Facilitating and collecting data from the Court’s in-house Family Law facilitation
program. - Participating in professional development training and pursuing committee and
professional organization memberships to remain abreast of current trends and
best practices. - Other duties as assigned. This position does not provide direct ADR services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred; however, a combination of education and directly
applicable experience may be substituted. - Knowledge of court processes is required.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office as well as an aptitude
for learning software programs related to various court administration, case
management, and grant functions. - Familiarity with Access is preferred.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities including time management,
workload prioritization, and record-keeping accuracy. - Effective communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment, tact, diplomacy, and competence in
dealing with judges, attorneys, court personnel, and the public. - Knowledge of Maryland Circuit Court ADR and legal procedures for family and civil
cases desired.
SALARY/BENEFITS: The ADR Coordinator is a full-time position funded by a grant from the Maryland Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office. The position includes health insurance, paid leave, and retirement benefits. Starting salary range is $57,000.00 - $63,000.00 and is commensurate with relevant experience.
