The State’s Attorney’s Office (SAO) for Anne Arundel County is seeking a dynamic and experienced Public Information Officer (PIO). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record as a spokesperson and possess in-depth knowledge of criminal justice. The PIO will be responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies, managing media relations, and ensuring accurate and timely dissemination of information to the public and media.
Essential duties include:
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Elected State’s Attorney, responding to media inquiries and public information requests
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies and public relations plans
- Prepare and distribute press releases, statements, and other communication materials
- Coordinate press conferences, media briefings, and public events
- Manage the department’s social media presence and online communications
- Build and foster long-term working relationships with media, citizens, community organizations, other municipal, county, regional and state public information offices
- Research, write, and participate in the development of and approval of content for various multimedia productions (e.g. PSA, video projects, slide shows, internet, Website, etc.)
Required skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Criminal Justice or a related field
- Minimum of two years experience as a spokesperson, preferably in the criminal justice sector
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Strong understanding of media operations and public relations best practices
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Knowledge of criminal justice policies, procedures, and terminology
- Work independently and accurately with minimal supervision on a continual basis
This is a full time position that includes benefits such as paid time off, health insurance, life insurance, pension and deferred compensation packages. Salary starts at $75,000 and is based on experience.
