The State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking a Spanish speaking Victim/Witness Specialist to support victims and witnesses of crime and to aid prosecutors both with the preparation of a criminal case for trial and throughout the court process. This position may be full or part time.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Must be fluent in Spanish
  • Assist attorneys by working with victims and witnesses in preparation for criminal trials
  • Must have some knowledge of the court system and victim’s rights
  • Must be able to review police reports, witness statements, 911 calls and other evidence
  • Assist victims by providing support, information, safety planning and community resources.
    Contact with victims and witnesses includes but is not limited to:
  • Educating victims/witnesses on the court process
  • Obtaining victim input for bail reviews, plea hearings, sentencing
  • Providing court accompaniment for victims at all court hearings
  • Attending pre-trial conferences with victims and witnesses
  • Maintaining regular contact with victims throughout the court process
  • Providing notifications to victims of case events and post-trial proceedings
  • Attending and participating in educational conferences/training seminars
  • Other duties as needed


Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a human service related field (i.e.:
    psychology, human services, sociology, criminal justice or related field)
  • Ability to conduct empathetic and objective interviews with victims and witnesses
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Ability to work independently and with sound judgment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fluid and dynamic environment
  • May require travel between office locations
