Millersville, MD (April 2, 2025) – The Anne Arundel County Police Department today announced the site-based assessment team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) will be arriving next week to conduct a thorough review of the Police Department. This team of independent assessors will be at Anne Arundel County Police Headquarters and other Anne Arundel County Police Department locations throughout the county from April 7-April 10 to conduct a comprehensive examination of all aspects of the Police Department’s operations, policies, procedures, and services.
The assessment is a critical component of the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s ongoing commitment to professional excellence and adherence to the highest standards in law enforcement. Accreditation through CALEA® is a voluntary process that demonstrates a law enforcement agency’s dedication to public safety and operational efficiency.
During their visit, the CALEA® assessors will review written materials, interview department personnel, and engage with members of the community. The purpose of the assessment is to verify that the Anne Arundel County Police Department meets CALEA’s rigorous and state-of-the-art standards. These standards cover a wide range of topics, including use of force, training, community relations, internal affairs, and critical incident management.
“We welcome the CALEA® assessment team and recognize this process is an invaluable opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to best practices in policing,” said Anne Arundel County Chief of Police Amal E. Awad. “Our officers and staff have worked diligently to comply with the hundreds of standards required for CALEA® accreditation, and we are confident that the assessment will reflect their dedication to serving the residents of Anne Arundel County with professionalism and integrity.”
Members of the public and agency personnel are invited to offer comments at a public information access portal posted at the following: https://cimrs2.calea.org/604.
