Child Sex Abuse - Hanover

On September 8, 2021, the Anne Arundel County Police were notified by the Department of Social Services in reference to a sex offense involving a minor and an instructor of Lion Choi’s Taekwondo studio, which is located in the 2000 block of Annapolis Road in Hanover Maryland.

The victim, who was 17 years old at the time the report was initiated, was later interviewed at the Anne Arundel County Child Advocacy Center on September 17, 2021. During the interview, the victim disclosed being sexually abused by the suspect, who was identified as Steve Choi, a 42-year-old-male of West Friendship, Maryland. The victim advised that the sexual abuse started when the victim was 14 years of age.

The Anne Arundel County Child Abuse Unit, along with members from the Department of Social Services, coordinated further investigation to include obtaining potential evidence and conducting additional witness interviews. Upon the conclusion of this investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Choi with multiple crimes associated with the sex abuse of a minor. On August 16, 2022, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Armed Robbery - Glen Burnie

On August 16, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers responded for a robbery of a citizen in the area of Aviation Boulevard and Hollins Ferry Road in Glen Burnie. The 52-year-old male victim was walking northbound on Aviation Boulevard near Hollins Ferry Road when an unknown vehicle pulled over on the shoulder in front of him. The right front passenger got out of the vehicle, displayed a handgun, and demanded the victim’s money. The suspect then returned to the vehicle, which fled northbound on Aviation Boulevard. The victim did not report any injuries.  Northern District detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information to contact 401-222-6135. Attempted Burglary - Glen Burnie

On August 17, 2022, at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers responded for a report of a male suspect attempting to force entry into an apartment with a hammer in the 7800 block of Bruton Drive in Glen Burnie. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, who was in possession of a hammer and an empty backpack. There was damage to the door lock, however, the suspect did not gain entry to the residence. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly.
