Fatal Collision - Annapolis

On December 18, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers responded to southbound Solomons Island Road at eastbound Route 665 for a single-vehicle collision. The investigation revealed a 2001 Volvo S80 was traveling southbound on Solomons Island Road approaching eastbound Route 665 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. The front-seat passenger was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased.

Due to roadside observations, the driver of the Volvo was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest for further testing.

This crash is under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section.

Road Rage/First-Degree Assault - Hanover

On December 17, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m. officers responded for a report of a first-degree assault in the 7400 block of New Ridge Road in Hanover. The victim informed officers that he and the suspect were both stopped at a red light at Arundel Mills Boulevard and MD Rt 100. The victim stated the suspect retrieved a black handgun from the center console, waved it up and down, and then pointed it at him and his juvenile daughter, who was seated in the front seat. The victim left the scene and the suspect continued southbound on Arundel Mills Boulevard. The victim indicated that this occurred following a road rage incident. Western District detectives are investigating the incident and ask that anyone with information contact them at (410) 222-6155 or the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line at (410) 222-4700.

Suspect: black female, 50-60 years of age, medium build, "graying" hair, eyeglasses, dark clothing. Last seen operating a white 2022 Audi Q5 SUV.
 

Update:
Western District Detectives were able to locate the "suspect" and, through interviews, surveillance footage, and other investigative means, were able to determine that no crime was committed. Detectives are calling it a misunderstanding. There was no malice on behalf of the reporting parties or the suspect. This case has been closed, unfounded.

Weapons Offense - Hanover

On December 17, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m. officers responded for a report of a weapons offense at the McDonald's, 7053 Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover. The complainants reported that a black male wearing a puffy coat and gold chains displayed a handgun to them, so they immediately dialed 911. The victims advised that they last observed the suspect near the McDonald's. Officers searched the area and observed the suspect standing on the sidewalk, in front of the McDonald's. As officers approached the suspect, he fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect stopped running and was placed into custody without incident. The suspect admitted to possessing the handgun, which was recovered by officers. During their investigation officers learned that the suspect was prohibited from possessing a firearm. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly.
