Commercial Robbery / Pasadena

On February 15, 2020 at approximately 3:50 a.m., officers responded for a robbery at the Royal Farms located at 8551 Fort Smallwood Road in Pasadena. An unknown male suspect approached the counter, implied he had a weapon and demanded cash from the register. The clerk complied and the suspect fled. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Robbery detectives are investigating this incident and ask anyone with information to call 410-222-4720 or the Tip Line at 410-222-4700.

Serious Injury Crash / Glen Burnie

On February 16, 2020 at approximately 11:53 pm, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a Volkswagen Beetle on Hidden Brook Drive. The Volkswagen refused to stop and continued onto Old Stage Road. The officer did not attempt to pursue and later located the vehicle which had crashed on Old Stage Road near Baylor Road.

The Volkswagen was traveling north on Old Stage Road. The driver lost control, and crossed the center of the roadway. The Volkswagen struck a Mazda Miata which was parked on the street. The Mazda struck a Nissan Altima which was parked in a driveway and then struck a Ford van which was also parked on the street. The driver and one passenger were transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. Two other passengers were transported with serious injuries.

Preliminarily, the primary cause of the crash appears to be the driver’s failure to remain in a single lane. Speed, drugs, and alcohol appear to have contributed to this crash. The Traffic Safety Section is handling the crash investigation.

Stolen Auto (Arrest) / Hanover

On February 17, 2020 at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers responded to the 7494 Race Road in Hanover for a report of a stolen vehicle with a possible child inside. A parent was picking up their child at day care and left their 2016 Buick Encore running and unsecured. An unknown subject entered the vehicle and drove away. A witness followed the vehicle and provided a direction of travel. An officer located the vehicle on Dorsey Run Road and found it being operated by a 15 year old who was taken into custody without incident. The child originally believed to be in the vehicle was safely with the parents.

Fatal Crash / Edgewater

20-706172

On February 17, 2020 at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to Central Avenue East and Solomons Island Road in Edgewater for a multiple vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer.

A Maines Paper and Food Service International tractor-trailer was traveling east on Central Avenue East at Solomons Island Road. The tractor-trailer entered the intersection while facing a green signal. A Ford Fiesta was traveling south on Solomons Island Road. The driver of the Ford failed to stop for a red traffic signal at Central Avenue and struck the trailer broadside. The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead on the scene by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel. The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Preliminarily, the primary cause of the crash appears to be the driver of the Ford failing to stop for a red traffic signal. Drug and alcohol results are pending toxicology tests by the O.C.M.E. The Traffic Safety Section is handling the crash investigation.

The clerk complied and the suspect fled. Officers searched the area but wer unable to locate the suspect. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
