Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash - Annapolis

On February 20, 2025, at approximately 11:58 p.m., officers responded to a crash on Generals Highway near Knollwood Drive. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Hyundai Sonata was traveling northwest on Generals Highway when it crossed the center line and struck a 1997 Toyota 4Runner head-on. The operator of the Hyundai was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. One passenger of the Toyota was taken to the University of Maryland Regional Medical Center, and another was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center. The operator of the Toyota was not injured. This incident remains under investigation by the Crash Reconstruction Team.

Weapons Violation - Laurel

On February 20, 2025, at approximately 4:50 p.m., detectives with the Western District conducted a traffic stop of a gray 2008 Honda Civic in the area of Russet Green West and Orient Fishtail Road in Laurel. During the stop, an officer located a loaded 9mm Polymer 80 handgun in the waistband of one of the passengers. The passenger, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, was arrested and charged.

Joint Burglary Investigation

Joint Investigation Results In Closure of Multiple Burglaries in Region

 

On Saturday, February 15, 2025, Anne Arundel County Police Western and Eastern District Detectives, in collaboration with the City of Bowie Police Department and the Prince George’s County Police Department, executed a search and seizure warrant at 12206 Madeley Lane, in Bowie, Maryland. The search, related to an ongoing investigation into a series of burglaries of convenience stores in the region, resulted in the seizure of stolen lottery scratch-off tickets, articles of clothing, an unregistered loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun, and other items of evidence related to the offenses. The businesses targeted by the suspects in Anne Arundel County include the following:

  • Sunoco - 2201 Defense Highway - 09/22/2024 - 3:00 a.m.
  • Shell - 1229 Generals Highway - 12/02/2024 - 2:00 a.m.
  • Shell - 537 Benfield Road - 12/24/2024 - 1:18 a.m.
  • Shell - 601 Ritchie Highway - 01/02/2025 - 2:00 a.m.
  • Exxon - 1335 Generals Highway - 01/25/2025 - 1:40 a.m.
  • Shell - 1229 Generals Highway - 02/01/2025 - 1:30 a.m.
  • Exxon - 1335 Generals Highway - 02/09/2025 - 3:30 a.m.
  • Sunoco - 2201 Defense Highway - 02/09/2025 - 4:00 a.m.

Two suspects, James Elton Guess III, 34, Bowie, Maryland, and Jawaun Malik Martini, 30, Woodbridge, Virginia, were taken into custody at the location. Both were transported to Anne Arundel County Central Holding and Processing Center, where they have been charged with numerous counts of burglary in Anne Arundel and the City of Bowie. This seizure and the resulting arrests stem from a five-month investigation that cleared eight commercial burglaries in Anne Arundel County and several others in Prince George’s County and the City of Bowie.
