Robbery of a Citizen/Glen Burnie
On July 19, 2019 at approximately 7:40 p.m. officers responded to the Big Laundromat Lavanderia located at 7560 Ritchie Highway for a robbery of a citizen. The victim advised he went into the business to get checks cashed. As he was walking back to his car, the suspect approached him with a handgun. The suspect demanded money, advising that he knew the victim just got checks cashed. The victim handed the suspect a small amount of cash from his wallet and the suspect demanded his car and any other valuables. The victim said no and began to scream. The suspect then fled the scene. According to the victim, this occurred approximately an hour prior to reporting. There is no further information and there were no injuries reported in this incident. Robbery of a Citizen/Glen Burnie
On July 20, 2019 at approximately 11:30 p.m. hours officers responded to 7753 B&A Blvd. in Glen Burnie for a citizen robbery. The victim reported that the suspect approached him in front of the 7-Eleven asking him for money. The victim took out his wallet to give the suspect a dollar. The suspect grabbed the wallet and a struggle ensued. The suspect took the wallet but dropped his cell phone on the ground during the incident. The suspect left the scene but quickly returned to get his phone. Officers who were responding to the call located the suspect approximately a block away. The suspect was positively identified as Eric Eugene Powell Jr. and was charged with robbery, second degree assault, and theft. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
On July 19, 2019 members of the Traffic Safety Section conducted a high intensity commercial vehicle enforcement patrol on Patuxent Road between Piney Orchard Parkway and Conway Road. This was in response to complaints of numerous commercial vehicles ignoring the 5 ton weight restriction through the Walkersville community.
Officers who are certified truck inspectors stopped 11 commercial trucks and conducted North American Standard truck inspections on each. As a result of these inspections, 5 trucks were placed out of service for safety related items and one driver was placed out of service for medical non-compliance.
Officers continued truck enforcement activities in the afternoon hours on Central Ave near Patuxent River Rd looking for overweight dump trucks and unsafe load securement. These inspections resulted in 5 inspections where two trucks were placed out of service for load securement and one driver was placed out of service for operating with a suspended license.
There will be additional enforcement conducted periodically throughout the county focused on aggressive/distracted driving and commercial vehicle enforcement utilizing allied agencies, covert vehicles and police motorcycles. Citizens observing any vehicles operated in a careless or reckless manner are asked to contact the police department by calling 911 or the non-emergency number- 410 222-8610.
