Homicide - Odenton

On June 17, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of Meadowmist Way and Stehlik Drive in Odenton for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim in the 500 block of Meadowmist Way on the ground, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s). Responding officers administered life-saving efforts for the victim, 27-year-old Isaiah Oludayo Olugbemi of Odenton, until he was transported to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Several residents from the neighborhood reported hearing multiple gunshots coming from outside their homes. Investigators believe this to be a targeted incident and not a random act of violence.

Investigators know several homes in the area with private surveillance and/or recording doorbell-style cameras. They are urging residents to check their footage for any activity and provide this to investigators to aid in this investigation. Please call 410-222-4731 if you have video to share with detectives.

Update June 18th, 2024 

Through evidence collection and witness interviews, detectives were able to identify a suspect in the case. The suspect in custody has been identified as Nicholas Francis Xavier Giroux, 36, of Odenton, Maryland. The suspect has been charged with first and second-degree murder.

Southern District

Robbery (Citizen) - Annapolis

Investigators assigned to the Southern District Detective Unit are investigating two related citizen armed robberies that occurred within a short time frame on June 17, 2024, in Annapolis.

The first incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. at the Truist Bank Bank, 2350 Solomons Island Road. The 38-year-old male victim returned to his car after visiting the bank when two male suspects approached him. One of the males was armed with a handgun. The victim raised his hands, and the suspects went through his pockets, taking money from him. The suspects fled in a dark-colored sedan.

The second robbery occurred at 4:35 p.m. at the Navy Federal Credit Union, 825 Bestgate Road. The 67-year-old male victim returned to his car after using the ATM when two male suspects approached him; each was armed with a handgun. The suspects demanded cash from the victim, who complied. The suspects fled in a dark-colored sedan. An officer spotted the vehicle, which fled from the officer.  The officer pursued but was unable to apprehend the suspects.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department encourages community members to follow the following precautions when withdrawing cash from banks or ATMs.

1. ๐๐ž ๐š๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ: Pay attention to anyone who may be observing your activities outside a bank or at an ATM.

2. ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐š๐ฅ ๐œ๐š๐ฌ๐ก ๐š๐ง๐ ๐›๐š๐ง๐ค-๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฌ: Store cash in a discreet manner, such as in a purse or wallet, and avoid displaying bank bags or envelopes that may draw attention.

3. ๐•๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ž: Criminals often look for patterns, so it is advisable to change your habits regarding banking and cash withdrawals.

4. ๐’๐ž๐œ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฏ๐ž๐ก๐ข๐œ๐ฅ๐ž: Ensure that your vehicle is locked, windows are closed, and valuables are not visible, reducing the likelihood of becoming a target.

Southern District

Citizen Robbery - Davidsonville

On June 17, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., officers responded to the 3700 block of Nile Road in Davidsonville for an attempted citizen robbery. The investigation revealed the victim was with two males, an adult and a juvenile, who were known to him.  The males searched the victimโ€™s pockets but did not find any money.  The juvenile suspect then pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded money.  The victim did not have any money and was able to get away from the suspects. Officers located the suspects and found the juvenile to be in possession of two BB guns.  Both suspects were arrested and charged.
