On May 9, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Crain Highway near 8th Avenue NW for a report of a male subject wandering into traffic. Officers located a male who matched the physical description given. During the encounter, the male gave consent for officers to search him. During the search, officers located a clear baggie with suspected cocaine. The suspect then pulled away from officers and attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody. During the foot pursuit, an officer suffered a minor injury. Officers recovered approximately 12.25 grams of suspected crack cocaine, approximately 2.96 grams of suspected heroin, and 3.5 pills of suspected Xanax. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly.

Fatal Crash - Hanover

On May 9, 2022, at approximately 8:15 p.m., officers responded to the area of MD 100 eastbound just east of Harmons Road for a single-vehicle crash involving an SUV. Preliminary investigation suggests that the SUV was traveling eastbound on MD 100.  For an undetermined reason, the SUV left the roadway nearly striking a bridge on the right shoulder.  The SUV continued back across both eastbound lanes and struck a guardrail in the median.  The SUV continued along the guardrail, then crossed back across both eastbound lanes.  The SUV struck two trees in a wooded area off the right side shoulder, where the vehicle rolled onto its left side.

The driver was pronounced deceased on the scene by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.  The driver was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section.
