Western District Laurel-Pedestrian Crash

On May 2, 2019 at approximately 7 a.m. officers responded to the area of Shoreline Blvd. and Bayou Bend Blvd. in Laurel for a hit and run accident. Officers learned that an 8-year-old child was struck by a dark colored SUV type vehicle while attempting to board a school bus. The child was transported to a local pediatric center with serious but NON-LIFE THREATENING injuries. We are asking anyone in the area who may have witnessed this or with surveillance cameras to please give us a call at 410-222-8610. This is still an active investigation and no further information is available.

Update:
The driver in this case called and turned himself in. He advised he in fact did stop the vehicle and got out but child got up and ran away (presumably to go home.) Once the child ran off the driver got back in his vehicle and continued to work. The driver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident. The cause of the crash was ruled pedestrian error as the driver was driving in a location not required to stop. There is no further information.
