ARIDE TRAINING / IMPAIRED DRIVING ENFORCEMENT
On May 4th and 5th, specially trained officers of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, known as Drug Recognition Experts (DRE), conducted enhanced training for patrol officers related to impaired driving detection and enforcement. The training is a nationally recognized, NHTSA-sponsored training curriculum titled Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE). During the course, patrol officers learned enhanced techniques to improve their training and skills to better observe, identify and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both.
After the training on the night of May 5th, ARIDE instructors and students conducted an impaired driving enforcement detail countywide. Officers conducted enforcement throughout the county on major thoroughfares. Over the course of the four-and-a-half-hour detail, officers made 46 traffic stops during their efforts with a focus on impaired and aggressive driving. Officers issued 37 citations, 40 warnings, and 4 equipment repair orders for various violations related to impaired driving detection. The enforcement efforts led to arrests for 1 DWI/DUI, and 3 must appear licensing offenses.
Enforcement efforts to deter and remove impaired drivers from our roadways are always ongoing. Citizens observing any vehicles they believe to be driven by an impaired driver are encouraged to contact the police department by calling 911 or the non-emergency number 410-222-8610.

On May 5, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers responded for an armed male in the 100 block of Warwickshire Lane in Glen Burnie. Callers reported the male was waving a handgun in the air and attempting to enter a vehicle. Responding officers located the male, seized the loaded 9mm SCCY CPX-2 semi-automatic handgun, and took the male into custody. He was arrested and charged accordingly.

Burglary (Attempted ATM Theft) - Linthicum

On May 6, 2022, at approximately 3:45 a.m., officers responded for a burglary in progress at the Royal Farms located at 400 Camp Meade Road South in Linthicum. Two unknown suspects pried open the store's front door and attached a chain to an ATM. The suspects attempted to remove the machine but were unsuccessful. The chain was attached to a stolen white Ford F250 pickup truck that was still on the scene and recovered. A witness reported seeing the suspects flee the area in a dark Jeep. Weapons Violation/Theft - Severn

On May 5, 2022, at approximately 3:45 p.m. an officer responded to the Walmart located at 407 George Clauss Boulevard in Severn for a report of a shoplifting. The male suspect had walked past all points of sale without paying and was stopped by store loss prevention personnel. The suspect was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm Glock 26 semi-automatic handgun. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly.
