Stolen Auto/Shooting/Weapons Violation - Laurel

On November 29, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., detectives from the Western District and Criminal Investigation Auto Theft Task Force were conducting an auto theft initiative when they located a stolen black 2018 Kia Optima in Laurel, Prince George’s County that was believed to have been involved in a non-contact shooting on November 28, 2023, in Gambrills. Detectives requested Prince George’s County Police to respond and continued monitoring the vehicle's location. The vehicle traveled to the area of Greenbelt Road and Goodluck Road in Greenbelt, where an occupant of the stolen vehicle discharged a firearm from the vehicle. No one was struck. The vehicle then fled and was followed by officers into the District of Columbia, where it crashed into a parked vehicle on Hansberry Court near Baldwin Crescent in N.E. DC. Several occupants fled from the vehicle. The Prince George’s County Police helicopter, which had been observing the suspect vehicle, observed one of the fleeing suspects, who was taken into custody. A weapon was also recovered. DC Metropolitan Police took custody of the suspect. Criminal charges are pending further investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

On November 29. 2023 at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers responded for an assault involving a weapon in a burgundy Kia in the 6300 block of Smithy Square in Glen Burnie. Responding officers located the vehicle and found a male suspect to be in possession of a stolen 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The suspect, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, was arrested and charged.

Recovered Stolen Auto - Hanover

On November 29, 2023, at approximately 3:10 p.m., an officer attempted a traffic stop in the 7600 block of Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover on a previously reported stolen white 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The driver fled from the vehicle as it came to a stop. As the investigation continued, a female exited a nearby restaurant and asked if she could retrieve her boyfriend’s phone from the stolen vehicle. Officers entered the restaurant and located the driver, who was taken into custody. The driver was also found to have outstanding warrants.

On November 29, 2023, at approximately 8:40 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop of a white Chevrolet Impala in the 3300 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road in Laurel for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed the driver had an open warrant and was placed under arrest. While conducting a search of the vehicle, a loaded stolen handgun was located.
