Major Crimes Section/Missing Persons Unit
The Anne Arundel Count Police Department is announcing a $10,000 reward for information resulting in the below missing persons being located. A press conference was held this morning, the link is below.
Javier Rodriguez (DOB 6-3-1999) was reported missing on August 7, 2015. Javier was 16 at the time of his disappearance and was last seen leaving the Burger King on West Street in Annapolis. He had just finished his shift at 9:00 p.m. on August 6, 2015 and was still wearing his uniform. Javier left on a skateboard and has not been seen or heard from since.
David Rivera (DOB 11-15-2000) was reported missing on August 30, 2017. He was also 16 at the time of his disappearance. David was last seen at his house in the 200 block of Janwall Street in Annapolis at 10:00 a.m. on August 29, 2017. He was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and New Balance sneakers. David has not been seen or heard from since that date.

Since June 1, 2019 there has been an uptick in thefts from vending machines in our Western, Northern, and Eastern Districts. Through investigative means detectives identified the suspect as Steven Freeman. He has since been charged with 12 similar cases with varying charges.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative
On Saturday, October 26, 2019, The Anne Arundel County Police Department will again participate in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative. This initiative, supervised by DEA, will coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets. This 18th national “take-back day” will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and the business community to collaborate and establish a safe collection site for all Americans, regardless of where they reside.
In addition to participating in the National Prescription Pill Take Back Initiative, the Police Department will also use this opportunity to showcase its permanently installed drop boxes in each district station and police headquarters. These boxes have been installed for the purpose of assisting the public in disposing of unused or unwanted medications year round. They will also allow citizens to dispose of these medications at their convenience in a safe and secure environment. The same collection protocols established for the pill take back initiative will be in effect for the drop boxes.

- On Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Police Department will have a police representative at each of the county’s four districts and police headquarters which will serve as collection sites.

- Controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter substances may be collected. This program is anonymous and no requests for identification will be made.
- Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box. If an original container is submitted, the individual should be encouraged to remove any identifying information from the prescription label.
- All solid dosage pharmaceutical product and liquids in consumer containers may be accepted. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The depositor should ensure that the cap is tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
- Intra-venous solutions, injectibles, and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.
- Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers. If an individual attempts to surrender an illicit controlled substance, law enforcement personnel should handle such material as abandoned property in accordance with department policy.
- All participants must retain possession of their own medication during the surrender process.

Animal Care & Control
Free, Family-Friendly Halloween Party
Goblins, fairies and werewolves may be among the “pets” roaming Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control during a free, family-friendly Halloween Party on Saturday, October 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the shelter located at 411 Maxwell Frye Road in Millersville.
The shelter’s fifth annual “Howl-O-Ween Paw-ty” will include a safe trick-or-treat trail throughout the event and a noontime children's costume parade and contest, with prizes in several age categories. Live music will be provided by The Big Band Theory of Baltimore, a non-profit jazz band. Throughout the party, there also will be face painting, children's games and education exhibits -- and, of course, pets available for adoption from both the shelter and some of its rescue group partners. The very popular “Candy with a Cop” event, during which Anne Arundel County Police Department officers distribute candy from the trucks of their vehicles, begins at 10 a.m. Parents, be sure to bring your cameras!
The Anne Arundel County Police Department will also be collecting Toys for Tots. If you are able please bring a new unwrapped toy to donate!
This free event is co-sponsored by the Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control, a nonprofit created by the shelter’s volunteers to help improve and save the lives of its homeless animals.
