Homicide (Arrest Update) - Edgewater

On August 9, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers responded for a report of a stabbing at an apartment in the unit block of South River S in Edgewater. Responding officers located an adult female and an adult male at the scene with apparent stab wounds. Officers immediately provided medical aid. The female, identified as 47-year-old Nancianne S Houston of Edgewater, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Fire Department personnel. The 58-year-old male was transported to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with serious, life-threatening injuries to his upper body and an extremity. Homicide detectives responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Preliminary information indicates the male and female were known to each other and were involved in an altercation when the stabbings occurred. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Update (September 27, 2024): On September 25, 2024, detectives received an arrest warrant for James Strachan Houston, 58, of Edgewater, charging him with the murder of Nancianne Houston. Houston was charged with first and second-degree murder and related assault charges. At approximately 8:00 a.m. on September 27, 2024, members of the Anne Arundel County Police Fugitive Apprehension Team located Houston in Edgewater and transported him to the Jennifer Road Detention Center for processing. Arrested: James Strachan Houston 58-year-old Edgewater, Maryland 


Northern District

Stolen Vehicle / Crash - Brooklyn

On September 27, 2024, at approximately 2:50 a.m., officers responded to the 5200 block of Kramme Avenue in Brooklyn for a report of a tampering with auto. Upon arrival, officers observed a 2020 black Hyundai sedan with black tinted windows fleeing the area. The sedan struck a residence in the 300 block of Church Street. The occupants suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Fire Department and a building inspector were called to the scene, and the impacted residence was condemned due to significant damage. Preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect vehicle involved in the crash was stolen. All four suspects were charged with juvenile citations and subsequently released into the custody of their guardians.

Eastern District

Robbery (Citizen) - Glen Burnie

On September 26, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., officers responded to Southgate Old Mill Park, located at 8224 Oakwood Road in Glen Burnie, for a report of a robbery. Officers learned that a male victim was in the park near the basketball courts when he was approached by two armed suspects. One suspect pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded that he empty his pockets while another suspect stood behind the first suspect brandishing a firearm. Both suspects fled the scene, and the victim was unharmed during the incident. Officers promptly canvassed the area and located one suspect at the intersection of Aquahart Road and Greenway Southeast in Glen Burnie. That suspect was positively identified and taken into custody along with the firearm which was discovered to be a BB Gun. The second suspect remains at large.
