Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works Minimizes Curbside Collection Disruptions

Annapolis, Maryland (August 30, 2024) - Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works (DPW) has implemented proactive measures to minimize disruption to curbside collection services in Pasadena, Severna Park, Odenton, and Laurel areas. Following notification of a potential strike by Teamsters Local 570, which represents curbside collection employees for Ecology Services, Inc., DPW worked to secure additional resources to ensure continuity of essential services.

“While there is a contract dispute between Ecology Services and the Teamsters Union, we are committed to minimizing the impact on our residents,” said DPW Director Karen Henry. “DPW has coordinated with other local contractors, including Gunther Refuse Service and MBG Refuse Service, to bolster our collection efforts during this time. We appreciate their readiness to assist in maintaining our service standards.”

During the week of Labor Day, collection services in the affected areas will focus on household garbage only. Recycling and yard waste collections will be temporarily suspended and are expected to resume during the week of September 9-14, though they may not follow the regular schedule. DPW will continue to provide updates and detailed information to residents regarding any changes in service.

Only customers in Service Areas 5, 8, and 15 will be impacted by these temporary adjustments. Residents can identify their service area by visiting the Find My Collection Day feature on the County’s website and entering their address.

Residents are encouraged to download the Recycle Coach app for real-time updates and additional information. The app is available for free on The App Store and Google Play. Information can also be accessed through the desktop site at Recycle Coach.

The County’s Landfill and Recycling Centers will maintain their usual hours from Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., following the Labor Day holiday. Normal operations will resume on Monday, September 9.

“We remain hopeful for a swift resolution to this dispute and will notify customers of any changes to the current schedule,” added Ms. Henry.
